This buffalo nickel cut coin pendant was made from a US Buffalo nickel, often called an Indian head nickel. These are among the most famous of all American coins. They have the buffalo on the reverse side and the Indian on the obverse. Click on the image for an enlarged view.
Buffalo nickels were minted from 1913 to 1938. They were replaced by the Jefferson nickel
after only 25 years because important features such as the date wore badly when the coins
were in circulation. Despite those problems, this design has proved to be one of the most
popular of US coin designs. It has been used for both silver and gold coins that are not
meant to be circulated.
Buffalo nickels are made of an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel. Even though they
are predominantly copper they are much harder to work with and much tougher to cut
than copper coins like pennies.
As you can see from the photos, the Buffalo nickel makes a striking cut coin. And don’t forget
that it is covered by my seven-day guarantee.

The second image shows another Buffalo Nickel that is electroplated with 14kt gold. I
had the plating done by a professional jewelry plater after I completed the piece. Of course
this piece is also covered by my seven-day guarantee.
