Marty’s Jewelry Policy

On this page I want to explain the set of policies that make up Marty’s Jewelry Policy. I’ll do my best to use simple English.

First, my seven-day money back guarantee.  Many of the products on Marty’s Jewelry are ones that I have either made myself or purchased.  Any of these will be ones that I myself ship to you.  On these you will have a seven-day no-questions-asked guarantee.  When you receive your item if for any reason you are not happy, you have seven days to notify me.  Then you must ship the item back to me.  When I receive it I will either refund your purchase price or replace it, depending of course on availability and on what you prefer. Please note that the refund will only be for the price of the product itself and will not include any shipping and handling fees. This means that you are responsible for the cost of the return shipping.

Second, prices.  My prices are simple round figures.  I never have been able to understand why someone would quote $19.95 instead of simply $20.00.  Do they think we don’t know what a nickel is?  My prices are determined by two factors.  The first factor is the cost to replace the coin.  Some coins are harder to get than others.  Some coins, like American Mercury dimes or Walking Liberty half dollars, are made from silver.  As a businessman I have to account for the cost of replacing my inventory in the prices I charge.  The second and far more important factor is the time, effor, and expertise that it takes to turn a coin into a piece of cut coin jewelry.  As Benjamin Franklin famously said, time is money.

Third, shipping.  The price of shipping via first class US mail is included in all my items.  So there is no extra shipping and handling charge.

Fourth, international shipping.  I have had no problems shipping to either the United States or Canada.  I have found first class mail to be very reliable within those two countries.  Unfortunately I have not had such good experiences shipping to other countries.  On many occasions articles have never arrived and I have ended up both refunding the purchase price and losing the piece.  For example, recently I mailed a cut coin to Germany and it never arrived.  Naturally I have priced insurance and tracking on packages mailed from the USA to other countries.  These costs are extraordinarily unreasonable.  For example, insurance and tracking on a one ounce package to Australia are only available on express mail or priority mail packages, not on first class mail.  The prices are $29.00 and $28.00 respectively.  UPS charges over ninety dollars for the same shipment.  On any item worth less than several hundred dollars these prices are ridiculously prohibitive.  Accordingly my policy on international shipping is that I will not do it unless the customer is willing either to accept the risk of the package not arriving or to pay for the insurance and tracking.  I am sorry that it has to be this way but experience has taught me that most of the post offices in the world are not reliable.  Let me make this absolutely clear – if you live in any country outside the US or Canada, you will pay the same price as anyone inside those countries.  But if the item does not show up, I will not issue you a refund.  You have to take the risk that your post office will not deliver, not me.  If the item does show up and you are not happy, then you are covered by my seven-day guarantee as above, and I will replace the item or issue a refund when you return it.  If you have any questions about this please contact me at marty@martysjewerly.com.

Fifth and finally, many of the items that will be available on Marty’s Jewelry will be items from other vendors.  On the posts devoted to these items you will see a link to the actual vendor’s web site.  I will be acting as an affliate for those vendors and, if you do purchase the item, I will receive a commission.  Clearly I have no control over the policies of these other vendors, so my seven-day guarantee will not apply to these items.  But I can assure you that I will only act in this regard for vendors of high quality, so I fully expect that you will have no problems with them.

Thanks for reading.  I hope you find these policies reasonable and acceptable.  Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.  I can be reached at marty@martysjewelry.com.
