This was the first quarter released in the 50 State Quarter program just as Delaware
was the first state to ratify the Constitution and become a member of the United States.
The reverse of the coin celebrated Caesar Rodney’s historic horseback ride from Delaware
to Philadelphia in 1776 to cast his vote in favor of independence. This coin is a clad
coin with a core of copper sandwiched between two layers of nickel-copper alloy.
