This handmade cut coin pendant was made from a US Mississippi quarter minted in
2002. This coin on the reverse shows the magnolia flowers which are not only the state
flower but are so impressive that Mississippi is called the Magnolia State. This coin is
a clad coin with a core of copper sandwiched between two layers of nickel-copper alloy.
Strangely enough magnolias are not native to Mississippi or even the United States. They
were introduced from Asia. Growing conditons in the southern US are ideal for them.
Because of that and because of their beauty they quickly became extremely popular, so much
so that they are emblematic of the American South.
